It got to the point where I returned my router to my ISP, told them to turn off my wifi and got an ethernet router only. ![]() I was the one who actually found the keylogger file on my laptop - not them. They said "all clear" but my cursor was still floaty. I paid Toshiba and Norton $100 each to remotely access my laptop and clean it. I can't get Microsoft to take me seriously. netsh stop hosted network - I found that command somewhere and you wouldn't believe how quiet my laptop became - the fan went off, the cpu usage was no longer high. fyi - From what I can tell hackers somehow are using my computer to allow others to download illegal music and video files. Would love to see someone post a checklist - or a link. It's happening on a lot of computers but home users aren't IT geeks so if we're finally able to regain control of our computer, we have not idea which Inbound/Outbound Fireiwall rules we can/cannot disable. Hackers are utilizing these commands to remotely disable my firewall. That's what's been happening to me on my home computer - no home group - strictly a standalone pc. ![]() But compared to just about any antivirus or EP firewall, the Windows one isn't worth much.just my opinion.and experience. Your points are valid, I am not saying never turn if off to troubleshoot a problem but that you should not run the computer with the firewall off as it is an important part of the security of the PC and your network Or maybe you just nee to down and dirty grab a file off a remote computer but can't because firewall is preventing it. Another might be to simply troubleshoot why some network system isn't working with PCs, if you can narrow it down to the firewall, you might be able to figure out that it's not configured correctly. One would be to install a piece of software remotely, then you can reenable it. I would agree that there are third party firewalls that have more features, but I wouldn't say Windows firewalls have no value.Īlso, molan, I can think of a number of reasons why you might want to disable Windows Firewall remotely. For Windows XP, it's only a one way firewall, but for Windows 7 it's much more robust. simply stating the windows firewall isn't worth anything is just not true.
